    • Many people in NL buy their wood in the spring to ensure it\u2019s ready for use in the fall.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • We recommend that you not leave your wood directly on the ground for more than a few days. \u00a0Many people stack their firewood on wood pallets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • Limit your stacks to 4 feet in height (to ensure stacks do not tip).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          • Your firewood storage area should be very well vented. \u00a0We recommend outdoor storage during the summer months. \u00a0During the fall and winter months, it\u2019s best to move your wood\u00a0to a location protected from wind and rain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Bring only small amounts of wood indoors at a time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              • Birch produces higher heat, due to its higher density. \u00a0Many people here mix birch and spruce when burning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                • Wood must be properly seasoned before burning. Pick up a moisture meter to ensure your wood moisture content is less than 25% (ideally, it should be less than 20%). Wet wood can cause build up of creosote in your chimney \u2014 not good.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  • Have your woodstove\/fireplace insert and chimney regularly inspected by a qualified technician. We can provide you with contact information for a recommended WETT Certified technician – just ask.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
